It has been a bit of a struggle, but we have at last reached an agreement with the CSIRO for continued contract scouring until June 30 2009, or such time as the scour is decommissioned in order to be moved into private enterprise.
The CSIRO have agreed to operate the scour 1 week per month to process approximately 5 tonnes of fibre. This may be supplied from different sources and CSIRO staff will assemble it into the 5 tonne batch which will allow a week of continuous operation of the scour. They request a minimum individual “bag” or sub-lot size of 20kg.
The scour is for sale by tender. The tender documents are available and may be obtained by contacting the CSIRO Geelong , which is now part of the Materials Science and Engineering Division. The change in name says a lot about what is happening at the CSIRO's Geelong facility. Fibre & Textiles are no longer a priority for the CSIRO, hence they are not only quitting the scour but also other textile mill equipment. The Wool Industry has certainly had the "wool pulled over their eyes" over these changes and are probably too late to do anything about it at this late stage.
